The battle over Chuck Hagel’s potential nomination as Defense Secretary is headed to the airwaves.

The Emergency Committee for Israel has released a new attacking Hagel. The spot from William Kristol’s conservative group can be seen here.

It echoes other criticism of Hagel for not taking a tough enough stance toward Iran and its nuclear ambitions. It quotes Hagel saying that military action against Iran is not a responsible option.

“For Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel is not a responsible option,” the voice-over intones.

This story in today’s World-Herald looked at that criticism and Hagel’s efforts to blunt it. And the World-Herald editorial page has weighed in, backing Hagel.

An announcement could come any day now so stay tuned.
